From the opening kick-off it was obvious that the Prince George game plan was to shut down the Sun running attack featuring league leading rusher, Gerren Hardisty.  In the first meeting of the season Hardisty shredded the Kodiaks defense for 206 yards on 28 carries.

The Kodiaks plan seemed to be working as they held the Sun to two Liam Attwood field goals on their first two possessions…after that…the plan fell apart.

Cue the Liam Kroeger aerial attack, who over the course of three quarters threw at will against the Kodiak defense, who were still focused on the run game.

Between the quarterbacking duo of Kroeger and Marcus Christos, the Sun offense connected on seven touchdown passes for a total of 538 yards passing, leading to the lopsided 60 – 6 victory.

Up 6 – 0 midway thru the first quarter, Kroeger went to work connecting with Jasiah Haliburton for 22 yds., then a 29-yard toss to Vincent Chuoi before finishing off the drive finding Jordayne Falconer for 20 yards and six points…Sun 13 – 0 at the end of the first quarter.

Early in the second quarter Kodiaks conceded a safety after the Sun defense shut down the PG offense to make it 15 – 0 Sun.

From there it was an air show with Kroeger connecting with four different receivers and adding two more touchdowns to receivers Haliburton and Seth Famakinde to close out the first half scoring, 29 – 0 Sun.

First half stats had Kroeger at 20 of 27 for 272 yards passing and 3 TD’s, Falconer was the top receiver with 3 catches for 71 yards and 1 TD.

In the third quarter Kroeger continued his air assault, spreading the ball around to five different receivers. The lone touchdown coming on a 15-yard toss to Famakinde for a 36 – 0 score.

Kroeger was marching the offense into Kodiak territory late in the third on consecutive receptions to Famakinde (2) and Tyler Craver before finishing off the drive on the first play of the final quarter with a 25-yard pass to Haliburton for 6…Sun 43 – 0.

Early in the fourth, back-up quarterback Christos replaced Kroeger and didn’t miss a beat hitting Sam Melanson from 9 yards out for his first of two touchdowns on the night…Sun 50 – 0.

Late in the quarter Christos found Melanson again for six points after a successful drive to make it Sun 57 – 0.

In the dying minutes of the game kicker Attwood hit a career high field goal from 51 yards to close out Sun scoring at 60.

Prince George, not to be shut out, put 6 points on the board with under a minute to play…Sun 60 – Kodiaks 6.

Sun offensive numbers for the night were 123 yards rushing, 538 yards passing for a total of 661 net offensive yards, and 7 touchdowns.  Kroeger was 30 of 42 attempts for 415 yds and 5 TD’s, while Christos chipped in with 11 on 12 attempts for 123 yds and 2 TD’s.

Receivers Haliburton, Famakinde, and Melanson each had 2 touchdowns while Falconer had one.

Defensively the Sun were once again a key factor, shutting down the Kodiaks offense and holding them to 221 yards net offense, 96 yds rushing, 147 yds passing and one interception.

The stage is now set for the biggest match-up of the season this coming Saturday September 13th at the Apple Bowl when the Sun welcome their rivals from Vancouver Island, the Westshore Rebels.  This game will go a long way in determining who holds onto first place in the BCFC.  The 7 and 0 Sun hold a two-point lead on the 6 and 1 Rebels.
