The Okanagan Sun are locked in a three-way tie for second place in the BCFC with the V.I. Raiders and their Saturday afternoon opponents the Westshore Rebels.
All three teams are 3 and 1 and all three see action this weekend. The Raiders host the league leading 4 and 1 Langley Rams while the Sun and Rebels square off in Langford at Starlight Stadium.
With a little help from the Rams and a flawless performance against Westshore, the Sun could find themselves alone in second place after Saturday night.
Saturday’s contest is the first of two meetings this season between the old rivals, the Rebels visit the Apple Bowl on September 26th.
The Sun and Rebels met twice last season giving BCFC fans full value for their tickets. August 9th in Langford saw QB Liam Kroeger engineer a 4th quarter come-from-behind drive and an eventual 43-39 win.
In the second game at the Apple Bowl on September 13th, it was billed as the battle for first place featuring the league’s top quarterbacks…the teams didn’t disappoint. By the final whistle the Sun had recorded 37-24 victory and, in the process, nailed down the club’s third BCFC regular season title in four years.
Fast forward to this season, the Rebels have a new QB Anthony Cancellare, who has shared duties with QB Zachery Wetsch, much like the situation with the Sun where Kroeger gave way to QB Marcus Christos after suffering an early season injury.
The big question for the Sun this weekend, who gets the quarterback start?
Christos was off his game in the first quarter against the PG Kodiaks but did bounce back to lead the Sun to a 67-13 win, in the process rushing for 3 TDs and throwing for 2.
The Sun defence will have their hands full keeping league leading REC Zion Brown in check. Brown has 488 receiving yards and is second in touchdown receptions with 4.
Offensively the Sun are hoping that RB Jaxon Allan can repeat last weekends performance where he rolled up 221 yds on 18 carries finding the end zone 4 times.
Allan leads the BCFC in FIVE offensive categories, 420 Rushing yds, 8 Rushing TDs, 105 Rushing yds per Game, Points Scored with 54, and Touchdowns Scored with 9.
Next Home Game – Saturday August 29th, vs V.I. Raiders – 7:00 PM kick-off
