OKANAGAN SUN SUFFER FIRST REGULAR SEASON LOSS IN ALMOST THREE YEARS IN LANGLEY

The Okanagan Sun found themselves in an unfamiliar situation at the end of Saturday's game in

Langley. When the final whistle blew, the Rams (2-0) had posted a 32-25 victory over the visiting

Sun (1-1).

It was the Sun's first BCFC regular-season loss in 27 games, dating back to August 26, 2023,

against the Westshore Rebels. Okanagan had gone undefeated through the regular seasons in

both 2024 and 2025. After being embarrassed by the Sun last season by scores of 39-0 and 94-0, the Rams made

significant changes during the offseason.

One of those changes was the addition of quarterback Darryl Overstreet Jr., who, in his first two

games, has engineered 1,038 yards of total offence for Langley. He has thrown for 650 yards

while rushing 16 times for 153 yards and two touchdowns—a positive impact, to say the least.

Against the Sun, Overstreet proved to be the difference. He repeatedly found receivers open

over the middle, and when coverage held, he used his legs to do the damage, rushing 12 times

for 132 yards and two touchdowns.

His favourite targets were Emmanuel Brown, who caught five passes for 99 yards and a

touchdown, and Josh Caverly, who added five receptions for 50 yards. Tristan Galye chipped in

with four catches for 42 yards and a touchdown. Overstreet finished 22-of-50 passing for 277

yards and two touchdowns.

The 32-25 final score was indicative of the game itself—a close, entertaining contest that wasn't

decided until the closing minutes.

Sun quarterback Liam Kroeger completed 14 of 29 passes for 237 yards with one touchdown

and one interception, yet he was unable to finish the game after suffering an ankle injury on a

sack late in the fourth quarter and required assistance leaving the field.

Trailing 23-18 early in the fourth quarter, Kroeger led the Sun on an impressive drive from their

own 20-yard line. Completions to Colton Miekle and a key 35-yard strike to Noah Borhot moved

the ball to the Rams' 10.

Short-yardage quarterback Marcus Christos took over from there, finding Miekle in the end

zone to give the Sun the lead once again, 25-23.

On the Rams' ensuing possession, the Sun defence forced a punt deep in Langley's territory. The

snap was mishandled by the punter, who managed to get a short kick away while on the run,

and the Sun recovered at the Rams' 37-yard line.

The next play proved to be the turning point of the game.

Looking downfield, Kroeger threw directly into the hands of defensive back C.J. Augustine, who

returned the interception 55 yards to the Sun's 35-yard line.

The Rams were unable to convert the turnover into a touchdown, settling instead for a single

on a missed field goal to trim the deficit to 25-24 with 8:45 remaining.

On the Sun's next offensive series, Kroeger was forced from the game because of his ankle

injury.

Starting from midfield, the Rams marched to the Sun's 20-yard line, where, fittingly, Overstreet

scored on a 20-yard touchdown run with 1:28 remaining to give Langley the 32-25 victory.

If there's a silver lining for the Sun, it's that they have a bye this weekend before hosting the

Valley Huskers from Chilliwack in their home opener, Saturday, August 8, at the Apple Bowl. The

break comes at an opportune time, allowing the club to regroup, recharge, and heal before

beginning the next stretch of the season.
