The Okanagan Sun scored early and often in a 49-7 shellacking of the Valley Huskers Saturday night in Chilliwack.
The win improved the Sun record to a perfect 5-0 at the midway point of the BCFC season.
The Sun marched down the field, scoring on their first two possessions, and the rout was on.
Quarterback Liam Kroeger showed off his arm early, marching the team 65 yards in just three plays. He hit Vincent Chuoi on a 37 yard strike on the second play from scrimmage, then found Seth Famakinde with a pinpoint strike in the end zone to put the Sun on the board.
A 42 yard strike to Jasiah Haliburton and a 15 yard pass to Famakinde set up a four yard touchdown run from Marcus Cristos to double the lead less than seven minutes in.
A 43 yard punt single from Grady Hay and a one yard run from Gerren Hardisty on their next two possession gave the Sun a 22-7 lead late in the first half.
Hardisty’s touchdown was set up by Jordayne Falconer’s 100 yard return on a missed field goal.
A safety and Liam Attwood field goal put the Sun ahead 27-7 at the break.
Cristos ran in his second of the game from one yard out and Kroeger found Chuoi from 16 yards out late in the third quarter, a drive aided by several Husker penalties, to go up 41-7 after three quarters.
Cristos took over from Kroeger in the fourth quarter and hooked up with Ty Walker for a 32 yard touchdown to close out the scoring.
A special teams miscue led to the Huskers only points on the evening.
Pinned deep in their own end, the Huskers were forced to punt. Kicker Carson Turner’s punt landed in front of the Sun returner and bounced back toward the Huskers.
Before the Sun could jump on the ball, Turner alertly came in and fell on the ball near midfield.
Seven plays later, aided by a face mask penalty that would have stalled the drive, Key'Shawn Dorsey found Payton Lake from 10 yards out.
They really didn’t threaten after that.
The Sun look to improve on their record next Saturday when they entertain the 0-5 Kamloops Broncos at the Apple Bowl.
