OKANAGAN SUN BUST UP THE BRONCOS 72-0

There was a homecoming of sorts on Saturday night in Kamloops, but it was a celebration that the hometown fans could have done without.

Former Bronco R Colton Meikle and Kamloops high school grad QB Liam Connolly combined to put on a spectacular airshow in the second frame.

From the first play of the second quarter, Connolly went deep to Meikle for 56 yds and his first of four straight touchdowns…21-0 Sun.

Meikle’s second touchdown was set-up thanks to DB Sebastian Gaspar’s interception return down to the Broncos 2 yd line…from there it was Connolly to Meikle to make it 28-0 Sun.

On the ensuing kick-off DB Keagan Curtis snagged the ball on a high bounce once again giving the Sun offense excellent field position.

And once again it was the Connolly-Meikle show, 15 yd toss to the big receiver to make it 35-0 Sun with just over 12 minutes to halftime.

Another big special teams play set-up Meikle’s fourth TD, punt-returner Gage Parker with a 43 yd return to the Broncos 7 yd line, where on the first down Connolly found number 17 in the end zone for six…42-0 Sun.

Unfortunately for Bronco fans the Sun offensive machine was not finished yet.  With a little over three minutes to halfime, RB Jaxon Allan found the end zone for his second TD of the night on a 57 yd run for six…51-0 Sun.

In the closing seconds of the first half Connolly found first year R Noah Borhot for a 19 yd TD pass to make the halftime score 58-0 Sun. 

With up to nine starters out of the lineup, including QB’s Liam Kroeger and Marcus Christos, the Sun turned to Connolly to run the offence…and run it he did!

As good as the Sun offense was, the defense shone shutting down any offense the Broncos could muster.

Sun LB Ethan Busch led the defensive charge with 5 tackles, 1 special teams tackle, and a shared quarterback sack.  Follow LB Liam O’Flynn had 3 tackles and assisted on the shared sack with Busch.

The BCFC game stats summary clearly tells the devastation that took place at Hillside Stadium in Kamloops on Saturday night.

Offensively the Sun dominated in the first half with 374 net offense yds from 214 yds rushing and 160 yds passing.  The Broncos had 49 yds of net offense on -1 yds rushing and 71 yds passing.

Game totals were equally eye-popping, 523 yds of net Sun offense to 57 yds for Kamloops.

The win was the fifth straight for the Sun moving to 6 and 1, two points behind league leading Langley Rams at 7 and 0, who just happen to be making a visit to the Apple Bowl this Saturday September 12th, 4:00 PM kick-off.
