Sunday's semi-final will be the 17th meeting in the post season

For the 17th time in franchise history the Sun will face the Langley Rams in the post season when these two kick-off on Sunday October 16th at 1:00pm.

They have met each other eight times in the semi-final and eight times in the Cullen Cup, BC title game.

The Sun have a 6-2 record against the Rams in the semis, but are 2-6 in the Championship game.    The last semi-final meeting was in 2013, with the Rams coming into the Apple Bowl and handing the Sun a 24-13 loss.  In fact the Sun will be looking to snap a three game home playoff losing streak against the Rams.

Whenever these two meet, whether it’s in the playoffs or regular season, many Sun players have had a memorable performance against the Rams.

Here are the Top 10 performances against the Rams since 2010.

#10 – Kyle Kawamoto: On August 15, 2015 the Sun held serve at the Apple Bowl and beat the Rams 32-13.  The offence was able to move the ball against one of the best defences in the Conference.  Kawamoto was simply outstanding making seven receptions for 131 yards, averaging 18.7 yards a catch.

#9 – Sun defence: Back on September 19, 2010, the Sun invaded South Surrey to face an extremely talented Rams offence and completely shut them down recording a 47-0 shutout win.  The defence held the Rams running attack to just 15 yards on the ground, compiled three sacks and forced five turnovers.

#8 – Dexter Janke: On September 6, 2014 in what would be a Cullen Cup preview, the defence once again shutdown the Rams high flying offence who featured receiver Malcolm Williams.  Janke was a force containing the Rams passing attack, intercepting two passes, making a pair of tackles and had an assist.  The Rams did all they could to keep the ball away from the future Calgary Stampeder.

#7 – Josiah Joseph – The Sun were purely dominating in a 32-13 win on August 15, 2015 and a major reason was the play of quarterback Josiah Joseph coming off the bench.  The former Mount Boucherie Bear was 12 of 14 for 211 yards and threw a touchdown pass.  He also scrambled three times for 26 yards in the victory.

#6 – Dillon Fortune – Speaking of dominating Fortune was just that in the same game on August 15, 2015.  He rushed 13 times and scored three touchdowns, one of the best games in his junior career.

#5 – Alex Bradley – In a heartbreaking Cullen Cup loss on October 26, 2014 at the Apple Bowl, Bradley was the most dangerous threat on the field.  He carried the rock 12 times for 143 yards, spiriting 101 yards for a touchdown, the longest of his junior career and one of the longest plays from scrimmage in a Sun playoff game ever.

#4 – Brennan Van Nistelrooy – Was there any no doubt Van Nistelrooy wasn’t going to be on this list?  On October 13, 2013 he was all over the field in a semi-final loss.  The future BC Lions draft pick compiled an incredible nine tackles, one assist, had a sack and a knockdown in one of the best defensive performances in Sun history.

#3 – Cam Bedore – Playing a game in Langley has given the Sun fits since the Rams moved to McLeod Stadium in 2011.  However on August 30, 2015 the Sun offence was on a mission and so was quarterback Cam Bedore.  The veteran played one of his best games in a Sun uniform despite terrible weather conditions, finishing 9 of 11 for 162 yards and threw four touchdown passes in a 52-10 victory.

#2 – Theo Deezer – August 24, 2013 was one of the most entertaining games in Apple Bowl history.  After the Sun scored 22 points in the first half,  the Rams stormed back to score 28 points in the fourth quarter before he Sun scored seven more to clinch the 29-28 victory.  Quarterback Theo Deezer factored in on all four touchdowns.  He threw three majors on 18 of 35 passing and 320 yards, and also ran for a major.

#1 – Bobby Davis – It was a game on September 19, 2010 that etched Bobby Davis’ name as one of the best quarterbacks in Sun history.  On the road, in a hostile environment in South Surrey Davis led the Sun to a 47-0 victory on 16 of 21 passing for 369 yards and threw five touchdown passes.  Two receivers caught touchdown passes of over 50 yards and Davis also gained 40 yards on the ground on 10 carries.
