Afternoon, fall football at the Apple Bowl has always been something the players and coaches have looked forward to.  The air is crisp, the leaves have changed colours and the anticipation of playoff football is high.

Speaking of playoff football, the Sun are in playoff mode right now with the regular season finale set to kick-off on Sunday afternoon.  The Sun (6-3) will host the Langley Rams (6-3) with a home playoff date on the line.  The winner of Sunday’s game will host the other club in two weeks in the Canadian Bowl quarterfinal and finish in second place in the BCFC.

The Sun are hoping history is on their side when it comes to the time of the game on Sunday. Kick-off is set for 1:00pm and since 2010, the Sun are 8-6 in October afternoon home games (including playoff games) outscoring their opponents 466-284.  Defensively the Sun have collected a pair of shutouts over this time span.

Sunday’s opponent, the Rams have proven to be formidable opponent on October afternoons at the Apple Bowl. Since 2010 the Rams have played in Kelowna five times in October, including playoff games, and have beaten the Sun in four of those meetings.

Offensively for the Sun, in the 14 October afternoon games, they have gained an average of 392 yards and scored 33 points, a recipe this year’s squad is hoping to see this coming Sunday.

Needless to say this game means so much to both teams as they fight for a home playoff date and momentum heading into the post season in two weeks.
