The Sun remain perfect with 27-21 victory

In an emotionally charged game the Sun defensive line played their best game of the season in a 27-21 victory over the visiting Westshore Rebels.

The Sun clamped down on the best running back in the Conference holding Jamel Lyles to 116 yards on 13 carries.    In all the Sun defence allowed 149 yards on the ground and 257 through the air.

Offensively the Sun led from start to finish.  Foster Martens began the game at quarterback and set the tone completing 13 of 18 for 186 yards and threw his first touchdown pass, a 13 yarder to Brendan Hansen.  Martens also used his feet, with a highlight reel run of 44 yards to set up a field goal with no time left in the second quarter.

On the ground the Sun rushed 32 times for 207 yards, while collected 237 yards through the air.  Hansen was the Player of the Game with 116 all-purpose yards and a major.

However the play of the game was a 120 yard return for a touchdown after a missed field goal by Raquille Cespedes late in the second quarter. He showed speed and agility in returning the kick, breaking the back of the Rebels.

Kicker Kealey Heintz connected on four field goals, his first in a Sun uniform.

The Sun (3-0) extend their regular season winning streak to 21 as they stay at home and host the VI Raiders (2-1) next Saturday night at the Apple Bowl.  Tickets are available now.
