The big German Jonas Gering is back for his final year

The Sun defence got even stronger on Monday as Head Coach Ben Macauley is excited to announce the return of defensive lineman Jonas Gering.

The RSS grad was named an All-Canadian last year after an impressive 13 sacks, 16 tackles, four knockdowns and a pair of fumble recoveries.

Gering will rejoin Lucas Machado, Kent Lawrence and Connor Novak on the defensive line that allowed the CJFL’s fewest points (108), an incredible 10 points per game in 2015.  This includes playing two more regular season games then teams in the Prairies.

“We are beyond excited to add Jonas back into the mix,” says Coach Macauley.  “He’s an All-Canadian with unfinished business.  He brings massive depth to an already strong defensive line.  I think he will thrive in his final year and his confidence should be through the roof.”

Despite missing main camp, Gering is in tremendous shape after his workout routine during the offseason.  He’ll rejoin his teammates immediately and prepare for the upcoming season which begins on Saturday night in Chilliwack.  The home opener isn’t until Saturday August 6 when the Westshore Rebels make a visit to the Apple Bowl.
