A handful of Sun players had an opportunity to give back to the community recently and no doubt learned some valuable lessons as well.

Dreamlift Kelowna is an annual event that makes the dreams of visiting the happiest place on earth come true for 72 kids living with severe disabilities or life threatening illnesses. Sunshine’s dream-making team sent these wonderful kids from Kelowna to Disneyland® Park in Anaheim, California for an exciting day of fun in the sun!

Dreamlift Kelowna is a one-day, whirlwind adventure to the Disney Magic Kingdom, organized by The Sunshine Foundation of Canada and made possible through the incredible generosity of new corporate partner Papa John’s International, Inc. Papa John’s Pizza enthusiastically participated in Dreams for Kids Day last April to help raise the remaining funds and ensure the DreamLift Kelowna would take flight in 2015.

Ten Sun players along with the two-time CJFL Coach of the Year Shane Beatty assisted at the Delta Grand with the final fundraiser before the trip down south.  It was an experience Coach Beatty and the ten players won’t soon forget, making kids and organizers smile from ear to ear.

Great job goes out to Lerone Robinson, Abdi-Nasir Abdi, Conner Novak, Ryley Butler, Josiah Joseph, Keagan Hughes, Curtis Garlough, Michele Vecchio,  Nick Wenman and Ryan Marquardt.

In another holiday promotion on December 5, four Sun players gave back yet again by volunteering their time to help at the Downtown Kelowna Light Up. Jonas Gering, Hughes, Garlough and Butler were stationed in the Laurel Packinghouse in Santa’s workshop.  The players entertained the line while families were waiting to see Santa, handed out hot cider and even acted as Santa’s elves handing out candy canes to boys and girls after getting their picture with Santa.
