It's been 15 years since the Sun tasted Canadian Bowl glory

When the Sun kick-off in the Canadian Bowl on November 7th in Saskatoon it will be 5,471 days since they raised the Canadian Bowl last at the Apple Bowl in 2000.

As it turns out the opponent is the same, however the venue is quite a bit different.  From the grass field of the Apple Bowl to the new turf at SMF Field.

Last time the Sun won the title, Cam Bedore was 7 years old, oddly enough, that’s his jersey number.

In 2000 with the Sun leading, but the Hilltops driving down by eight in the fourth quarter, quarterback Steve Bilan threw his second interception into the hands of Dax Olafson to seal the victory.

Overall the Sun defence forced two turnovers, the other interception was caught by Ryan Folk.

Offensive the Sun were outgained in total years 432-404, but the attack was balanced.  Quarterback Zack Silverman finished 13 of 21 for 232 yards and threw three touchdown passes.  Adam Eckert hauled in a pair and Jeff Schieman caught the other.

On the ground Stewart Vanderheide was named the Offensive Player of the Game after 15 carries, 142 yards and two touchdowns.
The offence scored 14 points in both the second and fourth quarters on route to the win.

Since the Sun won the Canadian Bowl last, hundreds of players have passed through the organization.  For some of the players on the current roster, like Kyle Patchell and Josiah Joseph, winning this Canadian Bowl would be a dream come true, after growing up watching this very team.

They will get their shot on November 7th in Saskatoon.
