It’s been a heck of a year for the Sun defence.  Once again they led the Conference in fewest points allowed, giving up 108, or 10 points a game.

To give fans an idea of how dominate they have been one needs to go back just one year.  The defence, the best in country, allowed 139 points or 13.9 points a game, almost four more points than this year.

Perhaps the most impressive stat is the number of times they sacked the quarterback.  In Week 3 they tied a BCFC record with 10 sacks in Nanaimo.   Then in Week 7 they broke the tie and collected 13 sacks, again against the Raiders.   The 13 was two shy of the Canadian Junior record.

In all this season the Sun defence collected 40 sacks, setting a new Canadian Junior Football League record.  There were two teams with 37 sacks, the 2001 Sun and the 1983 Ottawa Sooners.

Leading the way was Jonas Gering and his 13 sacks, including one in the season finale.   Lucas Machado collected seven sacks, Ryley Butler had five while Layne Hull recorded 3.5.

The Sun are preparing for a semi-final match-up with the Kamloops Broncos on Sunday October 18h at the Apple Bowl.  The defence by the way has collected eight sacks against the Broncos this season, Gering has 3.5 of them.
