Sun Clinch First Place With Victory

The Sun buck the Broncos 39-17 in the home finale

The Sun offence set out to prove to the rest of the BCFC that they have the best offence in the Conference, and are just has high octane as the Kamloops Broncos.    Sunday they proved it with a 39-17 victory at the Apple Bowl, clinching first place after a 21 point second quarter.

Quarterbacks Josiah Joseph and Cam Bedore again split time, each playing two quarters.  Joseph finished 12 of 17 for 203 yards and threw a TD pass, while Bedore finished 4 of 10 for 114 and also threw a touchdown.

Lerone Robinson caught both TD strikes and finished with 74 yards.  Kyle Kawamoto was again the main threat hauling in four passes for 132 yards.  In all eight different receivers caught passes.

On the ground Dillon Fortune led the way with his fifth touchdown of the year.  He rushed nine times for 51 yards, Bedore ran four times for 64 yards and rookie Abdi-Nasir Abdi also scored a major on five carries and 20 yards.

Defensively Keagan Hughes was outstanding with a game high six tackles.  He also had half a sack and an assisted stop, but his most exciting play was a blocked punt that Matt McConnell scooped up for seven yard touchdown.  Jonas Gering collected 2.5 sacks and now has 11 on the season.  Lucas Machado and JP Kalambay also shared a sack.

The defence held the BCFC’s leading rusher, Jacob Palmarin to just 56 yards on the ground.  On a side note, he needs just 108 yards in two games to become the first running back to 1,000 yards since 2011.

Thomas Huber connected on his Conference leading 12th field goal, hitting from 37 yards out in the fourth quarter.

In all the Sun offence collected 524 yards compared to the Broncos 306 and kept the run game to just 53 yards.  The offence has now scored a Conference high 386 points.

The Sun (8-0) will finish the regular season on the road in the next two weeks.  Saturday afternoon, the Sun will be in Westshore for the first time since 2013 to face the Rebels  (2-6) at 3:00pm.
