President of Kelowna Minor talks numbers

The Canadian Junior Football League is proud to announce “CJFL Minor Football Week” and the Sun will celebrate this Saturday night.

All 12 teams across the Prairies and BC Conferences will welcome minor football players of all ages to one of their home games this week.

"CJFL teams are an integral part of the communities that they represent,” said CJFL Commissioner Jim Pankovich.  "Minor football, along with the Canadian Junior Football organizations, is important to the development of our next generation athletes and community leaders.  The CJFL is pleased to showcase minor football in our communities during the CJFL Minor Football Week.”

Saturday night roughly 58 atom aged kids will be at the Apple Bowl standing on the field for the national anthem, representing their team as honourary captains, playing at halftime and three lucky kids will begin Week 5 of the season with a ceremonial kick-off.

Thousands of kids play minor football across the country each year and the CJFL would like to recognize them along with the countless volunteer hours from coaches, game staff and parents.

Many of the young athletes will have an opportunity one day to dress in the orange and brown.
