It's the fifth straight year the ScotiaBank Group has made a donation

Scotiabank recently made a $10,000 cheque presentation to the Okanagan Sun scholarship fund through its efforts at the team scholarship dinner last September.

"We have Team Scotia volunteers through our community program that are at the Okanagan Sun Scholarship Dinner," says John Guidolin – Regional Branch Manager ScotiaMcLeod. "We do various activities in regards to raising funds, the last couple of years we’ve done balloon sales, so any amount that we raise up to $5,000 our Team Scotia community program matches that $5,000, up to $10,000 and this year we are able to max out and contribute $10,000 to the Central Okanagan foundation which will help Okanagan Sun players and their scholarship fund."

This is the fifth consecutive year Scotiabank has partnered with the Okanagan Sun scholarship fund.

Sun Scholarship dinner committee member Les Weiss says, "It is a recruiting tool but you know, five years ago we had one or two kids in school, this past year we had 23 kids in school, its all about education and this donation certainly helps.  We want the kids to be involved in obviously the football program but we also want them to be going to school and get an education"

Because of partners like Scotiabank, in 2014 the Okanagan Sun committed over $25,000 to its players to attend post secondary/university.

"Helping out student athletes to be able to participate in their passion of football while staying in school is a great fit for the ScotiaBank group," says Guidolin.

Thank you ScotiaBank!
