Seven members of the first place Sun have been named 2014 BC Football Conference (BCFC) All-Stars following a terrific regular season.

Michele Vecchio – Offensive Line

The Rutland Senior Secondary grad was part of one of best offensive lines in Sun history.   Vecchio helped the Sun run game be the best in the Conference highlighted by BCFC rushing champ Alex Bradley and Dillon Fortune.  This ground attack accounted for 1,986 yards, averaging over eight yards a carry and 28 touchdowns.  This is the first BCFC All-Star award for the second year Vecchio.

Cliff Crews – Offensive Line

Like Vecchio, Cliff Crews has been simply outstanding on the offensive line.  The 22 year old was recruited by head coach Shane Beatty for his only season of junior football and he’s made the most of it. Crews and his line mates have given the Sun run game huge holes to run through as well as time for the quarterbacks to look down the field.  This is his first BCFC All-Star award.

Alex Bradley – Running Back

For the second straight year the Edmonton native is named to the Conference All-Star team.  Bradley is also the 2014 BCFC rushing champion following a season that saw him rush 77 times for 672 yards, average 8.7 yards a carry and score five rushing touchdowns.  The 22 year old was the featured back in the most dangerous running attack in BC.

Brennan Van Nistelrooy –Defensive Back

For the third time in his junior career the Lethbridge native is named a Conference All-Star. Van Nistelrooy seemingly had a stat in each defensive category.  The 20 year finished the regular season with 19 tackles, 8 assists, 2 sacks, 1 blocked kick, 4 knockdowns, 2 fumble recoveries, a forced fumble and two interceptions.   While lined up as the punter, Van Nistelrooy also rushed 12 times for 265 yards, averaging 22.1 yards a carry and scored a touchdown.

Robbie Yochim – Defensive Back

The accolades continue to pile up for the fifth year senior named a Conference All-Star for the third straight season.  The RSS grad led the Sun with 34 solo tackles and 4 interceptions.  He also tallied 4 assisted tackles, 1 blocked kick, 1 forced fumble and had an interception for a touchdown.  Yochim was also named the Sun MVP.

Dexter Janke – Defensive Back

The hard hitting 22 year old made his selection an easy one after an outstanding regular season.  The Edmonton native collected 14 tackles, 5 assists, 3 interceptions, 1 knockdown, 1 fumble recovery.  Janke was one of the leaders on a defense that tallied 59 takeaways.

Zac Ironstand – Defensive Line

In his fifth and final year of junior football, the North Battleford Saskatchewan bulked up in the offseason and it paid off.  As a mainstay on the D-Line, Ironstand recorded 12 tackles, 5 assists, 6 sacks, a knockdown and a fumble recovery.  His best game his season was in Week 8 in Nanaimo as he had 2.5 sacks, 2 solo tackles and 2 assists, winning the BCFC Defensive Player of the Week award.

The Sun will host the VI Raiders on Sunday afternoon at 1:00pm as the club begins the playoffs at the Apple Bowl.
