For the first time since 2007, a Sun running back has won the BC Football Conference rushing title.

Alex Bradley claimed the title following Sunday’s win over the Kamloops Broncos, finishing the year with 77 carries for 692 yards and five touchdowns.

The most impressive stat of this season for the Edmonton native, is the fact he played in only seven games and still was able to win the rushing title.  In three of the seven games he played, he carried just four times per game.

His best game was in Week 9 at the Apple Bowl, carrying 10 times for 171 yards, an average of 17.1 yards a carry with a touchdown against the Westshore Rebels.  In his first carry of the game, he sprinted 102 yards but was stopped short of the end zone.  He is the only BCFC ball carrier this season to gain over 100 yards on a single carry.

Bradley, in his fourth and final year with the Sun, becomes the first Sun running back to win the rushing title since Jeremy Levy did it in 2007.  That season Levy carried 178 times for 1,170 yards.

The Sun won the rushing title in back to back years in 1996 and 1997.  Ken Vermette rushed 126 times for 1,120 yards in 1996, before Ron Arnold carried the rock 135 times in 1997 for 1,236 yards.

Bradley’s teammate Dillon Fortune also had an impressive year, finishing third in the rushing race with 597 yards on 73 carries and scored six touchdowns.

The Sun are preparing to host the Vancouver Island Raiders in the BCFC semi-final on Sunday October 19 at the Apple Bowl.  Bradley missed the first two games of the season against the Raiders, but rushed 15 times for 96 yards in Week 8 in Nanaimo.  Fortune collected 275 yards on 26 carries and had two touchdowns this season against the Raiders.
