Sun Finish Regular Season With Win

A 31 point second half leads the an eighth straight win

For the first time since 2010 the Sun finished the regular season 9-1 following their eighth straight victory, a 38-19 victory over the Kamloops Broncos on Sunday afternoon.

The great crowd at the Apple Bowl saw a game of two halves, the Broncos winning the first half, while the Sun dominated the second half.

The Sun opened the scoring with just over six minutes left in the first quarter, as Cam Bedore found a wide open Thomas Huber from 35 yards out for a touchdown.  It was Huber’s second TD reception of the season.  The touchdown was set up by Ron Mwamba’s second interception in as many games.

The Broncos then reeled off 19 straight points including two second quarter touchdown passes from quarterback Steve Schuweiler and led 16-7 at halftime.  A field goal just after the second half began made the score 19-7.

Following Broncos field goal, the Sun scored 21 points in the third quarter.

Josiah Joseph, who played the second half, hit Huber from 39 yards out for his second major of the game.  Less than three minutes later, Alex Bradley rushed six yards for his fifth touchdown of the season, giving the Sun the lead for good.  Dillon Fortune put an exclamation point on the quarter, pounding two yards into the end zone for his sixth TD of the year.

In the fourth, Joseph found Hunter Verhulst for a six yard touchdown reception, his first of the year.

Huber then finished the scoring with a 32 yard field goal, his 12th of the year.

Joseph completed 12 of 15 for 146 yards and had a pair of touchdown passes.

Huber had a career game, catching five passes for 122 yards and two touchdowns.

The Sun defense created three interceptions, Mwamba had one, while Wes Geisler had a pair.

Chris Pereira recorded two sacks, Lucas Machado and Justin Gabriel each had one.

The Sun now prepare for the 2014 playoffs.  They have home field advantage throughout starting with the BCFC semi-final on Sunday October 19 at 1:00pm when they host the Vancouver Island Raiders (5-5).
