Second straight win in Nanaimo, 19-7 on Saturday

For the second straight game this season the Sun go into Nanaimo and left with a victory over the Raiders; a 19-7 win on Saturday afternoon, part of the CJFL’s Rivalry Week.

Rookie quarterback Josiah Joseph made his the first start of his junior career and finished 10 of 18 for 150 yards and threw a touchdown pass to Lerone Robinson, his fourth of the season. 

As in the previous two matches with the Raiders, the Sun ground game led the offense with 236 yards.  Alex Bradley rushed 15 times for 96 yards, while the BCFC rushing leader Dillon Fortune carried 10 times for 73 yards.  Kasey Russell scores his sixth major of the season, on his longest run of the year, rumbling 21 yards for the score.

Defensively the Sun collected a season high seven quarterback sacks.  Zak Ironstand had three of them, while Lucas Machado, Manu Eli, JT Fernandez and Justin Gabriel each recorded one.  Dexter Janke made his third interception of the season, all coming in the last two games.   Machado and Gabriel both recovered a fumble and Cord Delinte led the club with six solo tackles.

The “D” once again didn’t allow a team to collect 100 yards on the ground for the seventh straight game this season, allowing just 86 yards against the Raiders.  Where the Raiders did find success was through the air gathering 336 yards.

The Sun now move to 6-1 and will play three straight home games to finish the regular season.  This Saturday night the Sun host the Westshore Rebels (2-5) at 7:00pm at the Apple Bowl, part of the the CJFL's Minor Football Week (#cjflminor).  Game tickets are available HERE ...
