Its the first of two against the Broncos

Saturday night the Sun (3-1) visit the Kamloops Broncos (3-0) in the BCFC Game of the Week.

The Sun have never lost to the Broncos, compiling a 13-0 record since their inception in 2007.  The Sun are 7-0 at Hillside Stadium in Kamloops and have outscored them 233-49.

Coming off back to back blow out wins against their arch rivals the Vancouver Island Raiders, the Sun enter this week with great confidence.   Cam Bedore is coming off his best game as a junior throwing four touchdowns passes and has totalled 38 of 72 for 612 yards in the first four games of the season. Dillon Fortune leads the Conference with 31 carries for 294 yards and has scored three touchdowns.

Defensively the Sun have allowed the second fewest points (60) through the first four games and lead the Conference with a +9 in the takeaway/giveaway category.

Saturday night the Sun secondary will be tested and tested often.  Broncos’ quarterback Steve Schuweiler leads the Conference with 10 touchdown passes on 44 of 92 and had collected 676 yards and a 99.7% efficiency rating.  Scheweiler has three large targets when he drops back including veterans Derek Yachison and Devin Csincsa to compliment first year receiver Rudy Uhl

Yachison has 15 catches for 328 yards and two majors, while Csincsa has made 12 receptions for 155 yards and three scores.  Uhl leads the team with four touchdowns on nine catches and 224 yards including a Conference record tying 106 yard TD reception.

One player Scheweiler must be aware of is defensive back Robbie Yochim.  The fifth year senior intercepted four passes last year alone against the Broncos.

The strength of the Sun defense is in their front seven as they have not allowed teams to run the ball. In the first four games of the year, they have given up just 246 yards on the ground.    The Broncos howver have relied on a two headed monster in the backfield to set up the passing game.  Aaron Morran and Jacob Palmarin have combined for 53 carries, 505 yards and four touchdowns in just three games this year.

The Broncos are 3-0 for the first time in franchise history; as a matter of fact it’s their first three game winning streak ever.   The Bronco offense has been clicking early on this season as the club has averaged 44 points.

That said arguably the Broncos have had an easier schedule compared to the Sun.  They have faced the Valley Huskers twice and the Westshore Rebels once, who are a combined 1-7 this season.  The Sun opponents are a combined 4-7.

No matter the numbers, games between the Sun and Broncos are always physical and spirited.    Saturday night will be no different as both teams have lots to prove.  The Sun are trying to reach a three game winning streak, while the Broncos are trying to show the rest of the league they belong in the conversation when talking about playoffs and hosting the 2014 Canadian Bowl.

Kick-off from Hillside Stadium begins with the Kick-Off Show with Ryan Watters at 6:30pm, and the play by play at 7:00pm.
