The 38-0 win on Saturday was the team's 50th shutout

The Sun defense recorded a 38-0 shutout of the Vancouver Island Raiders on Saturday night at the Apple Bowl in the team’s 33rd home opener.

The shutout is the franchise’s 50th in team history, good for second all-time in the BCFC. The 50th shutout comes in their 315th game, second to only the Vancouver Meralomes who have 56 shutouts in 332 games.

The franchise’s first shutout happened in 1984 when they blanked the Renfrew Trojans 32-0 on the road.

The first home shutout didn’t happen until 1988 when they crushed the Surrey Rams 59-0.

The win over the Raiders on Saturday night was the first time in Raiders history that they have been shutout and their largest margin of defeat.

The Sun and Raiders will meet again this coming Saturday afternoon in Nanaimo at Caledonia Park where the Sun have not tasted victory since 2005.  Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00pm.
