With 246 yards on the ground and 196 through the air, the Sun shutout the visiting Vancouver Island Raiders 38-0 in the 33rd home opener.

Kory Nagata opened the scoring with his first career run at the Apple Bowl.  The rookie scored on a 10 yard run at the 12:35 mark of the quarter to culminate a four play drive.

In the second quarter the Sun scored 24 points to take a commanding 31-0 lead at halftime.

Kasey Russell scored on a one yard plunge at 9:56.  Dillon Fortune then scored on a carbon copy run from one yard out to put the homeside up by 21.

Thomas Huber kicked a 17 yard field with 2:14 to play in the second.

Then, taking advantage of terrific defense the Sun got the ball back and delivered the knock-out blow, a 24 yard touchdown pass to Jesse Kendall from Cam Bedore with 48 seconds before halftime.

There wasn’t any scoring in the third quarter, but then in the fourth, Russell pounded his way in from a yard out for his second touchdown of the game with 12:57 to go in the fourth.

The Sun finished with 246 yards on the ground and 196 through the air compared to the struggling Raiders offense who gained just 93 yards on the ground and 151 through the air.

Bedore finished 12 of 23 for 154 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

Next Saturday afternoon, will be a rematch as the Sun (2-1) travel to Nanaimo to face the Raiders (1-2) in their home opener.  Kickoff from Caledonia Park is set for 4:00pm.
