Zak Ironstand leads the defense in his final year

They say that “defense wins championships,” and the Okanagan Sun defense is ready to take that challenge here in 2014.

Each and every game the defense is called upon to make a big play, or make a huge stop; a call that they usually answer more often than not.

Week 1 was another example of how this Sun defense is going to be difficult to crack this year.  Last week against the Valley Huskers they allowed just seven points, 26 yards on the ground and created four turnovers.

One of the veterans on the defensive side of the ball in 2014 is Zak Ironstand in his final year of junior football.   With Ironstand and Jonas Gering on the ends, teams have found it difficult to get to the outside running the ball.    When teams turn to the pass Ironstand and his 7.5 sacks from last year pin his ears back and bull rush the quarterback.

With one of the greatest last names in franchise history, Ironstand sits down with Ryan Watters (@ryan2tswatters) to talk about how he gets himself motivated before a game, the communication he has with his line mates and what the ultimate goal for 2014 would be.
