Kickoff 2014 on Saturday night versus the Huskers

The Sun will open up the 2014 season on Saturday in Chilliwack against the Valley Huskers.

The game will be played at the newly turfed Exhibition Stadium, a facility that wasn’t available to the Huskers last year.

Since the Huskers inception in 1999, the Sun have dominated them, not losing a single match-up.   The Sun are 27-0 against the Huskers, including winning three playoff games.  In the 27 all-time meetings the Sun have outscored the Huskers 1187-225.  The Sun “D” have recorded eight shutouts, including the final meeting of 2013 in a 61-0 victory at the Apple Bowl.

Last season the Sun faced the Huskers three times, winning by a combined score of 164-27.  On the ground Alex Bradley rushed 45 times for 331 yards and scored five touchdowns.

Cam Bedore saw limited action against the Huskers in 2013 as the back-up to Theo Deezar.  Bedore finished 10 of 18 for 109 yards and two touchdowns.  Leone Robinson was the top received hauling in seven passes for 198 yards and two touchdowns in three games.

The Sun defense made things difficult for the Huskers last season.  In the three meetings the Huskers managed just 527 yards of total offense.  They would turn the ball over 13 times (9 fumbles and 4 interceptions).   Robbie Yochim and Wes Geisler each had an interception for a touchdown while Brennan Van Nistelrooy blocked a kick, recovered the ball and scored a major.

The Sun have won 12 times in Chilliwack since 1999 and will look for lucky 13 on Saturday night at 7:00pm.   Listen to the game on AM 1150 in Kelowna, or streamed live at www.okanagansun.ca with the voice of the Sun, Ryan Watters (@ryan2tswatters)
